FAQ

May I bring a guest to the Y?

YMCA facilities are provided for the use of YMCA members. Guests must purchase a pass to use the facilities. All guests 18 and over must present a valid photo ID and sign and Entrance Waiver.

Guest passes are available for $5 per visit before 4:00pm and $7 per visit after 4:00 pm.

Does the Y honor the AWAY program?

Yes. The Abilene Y participates in the Y-USA “AWAY” Program. As a member, you are part of a national movement of 18.1 million members in more than 2,400 YMCAs. Because each YMCA is autonomous, not-for-profit, and not a franchise, local YMCA policies vary on the use of equipment, facilities, services and programs by visiting members from out-of-town or from nearby YMCAs. If you plan to visit another YMCA, it is a good idea to call that YMCA about visiting member policies. AWAY members are allowed 10 free visits each year.

Use the YMCA Locator at www.ymca.net to find the Y nearest you.

Can I volunteer at the Y?

Yes. Volunteers play a critical role in helping the Y fulfill our mission of service to the community. We welcome any skill or time you may offer. Fill out our volunteer application and ask the staff at our Front Desk about how you can become more involved.

Can I put my membership on hold?

Memberships that are drafted monthly may be placed on medical hold for up to three months in a one-year period. This request is only for medical emergencies and must be made in writing. Easy to use forms are available at all Y Welcome centers.

Can I lend my membership card to someone else?

No. Y memberships are non-transferable to another person. Only the cardholder will receive access to our facilities. Members who lend their cards to other members may have their membership terminated by the YMCA. Lost cards will be replaced for $3.

Why is phone use restricted in the Y?

The use of cell phones and other handhelds are permitted in designated areas only. To ensure the privacy of all of our members, please refrain from using these devices in Y locker rooms and changing areas.

What is the Y’s cancellation policy?

You may cancel your membership at any time. Credit card and bank draft accounts require a 10-business day written notice before your draft date.

Can my membership be terminated by the Y?

Yes. The YMCA of Abilene reserves the right to terminate your membership for violation of any rule or regulation or inappropriate behavior toward any member, program participant or Y employee. The member understands that such judgments will be made by the YMCA in its sole and absolute discretion.
